Sally Lunn Bun Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

Prepare the Yeast Mixture:

  • In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy.

Mix the Dough:

  • Beat the eggs and add them to the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough:

  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Shape the Buns:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  • Cover the buns with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake the Buns:

  • Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
